Synopsis
SOCIAL DISTANCE takes you on an emotional journey in which young people worldwide explore a contemporary way of commemorating the Shoa. The film experiments with footage created and posted by TikTok users during the so-called ‘Holocaust Challenge’ – a trend which appeared on TikTok in August 2020.
SOCIAL DISTANCE examines the gap between different milieus. Do we need to have a minimal knowledge of their origins to understand what another person is doing? My short film shows a group of young people distilled from the dazzling ephemeral surfaces of social media, whose take on the Holocaust points to their own generation’s despair.
